Out beyond the ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing…..One of My Favourite Rumi quote.

unnamed

O! If only words could describe what I feel when I read this quote when I hear this quote when I think of this quote.

Let me tell you how I came across this quote, it was sent to me by a dear friend out of the blue, and it just stuck in my head. It one of those quotes that just takes you to a whole new world, whenever you think of it, or when you listen to it…It just makes you spiritually high…

Can you imagine it? Can you just contemplate it?

A state of going beyond right and wrong!

A field where we do not see anything else and we just follow our heart. A field where we transcend right and wrong. A field beyond the bodies. A plane beyond dualities of life. A single unending field of bliss. A state of existence where the world just does not seem to be important, it just seems to be a chaotic blur. And we escape into the deafening silence of the bliss beyond our body-consciousness.

I do not know in what state Rumi is talking about, but it is surely an outer body experience, there is no caste, no creed, it may even transcend the conceptions of men and women, it is all about that one consciousness, about self-realization of the soul…

All the dualities are dissolved…

“Give up [concepts] of righteousness and unrighteousness (dharma and adharma), give up both truth and untruth; having given up both truth and untruth discard that by you abandon [all these] [i.e. duality].”

We are so much conditioned to the dualities of happiness and sorrow, pleasure and pain, man and woman, that we have forgotten to see the spirit within us… the fundamental commonality between all of us, The soul…

I will meet you there…

You know, that death is an event when we leave behind all our friends, loved ones behind and go for an unknown journey. We cross a border, a fence into a new world, where we are strangers. We know no one. The anxiety that one feels is maddening.

All we can expect is to see a familiar face on the other side.

And God promises us, that he will meet us there, out beyond the concepts of wrongdoing and right doing. It is not a place, but a state of existence. God comes to our rescue, when we are in that moment of anxiety, where even this body does not come with us, the soul walks alone, with a hope to see a familiar face of his beloved God waiting for him on the other side…

He will meet us there…

The soul lies down in that grass…

ohh…..and the soul lies down… lies down in its true identity…

The soul is as old as God, and it has been roaming and wandering in the cycle of birth and death due to bodily association and desires for sensual pleasures since eternity, but today, it lies down in that grass…

A soul free from desires, a soul liberated, a soul in peace, a soul which has silenced the mind, a soul who knows where its peace lies…

A soul which was in unrest in the duality of the world, is finally at peace…

The world is too full to talk about…

And the soul forgets the notion of the world, it cannot affect that soul anymore…

That soul is beyond the rituals, the disciplines, the stigmas, the judgments of the world. If the awareness of the world remains, then it remains as a noisy chaotic blur, that is all…or it sees the shining benevolent hand of God working in the world…

What can the world to a drunken sailor, a sailor who is drunk in the devotion of God, and who is sailing in the amazing waves of love…

Ideas, language even the phrase “each other” does not make sense anymore

There is a union, a union which cannot be described by languages, and it cannot be contemplated in ideas. This state is so great, that the phrase “each other” does not make sense anymore. This union is of love, is of two sentient entities, the soul and its Lord.

What wouldn’t one give to be in such a state of happiness? What wouldn’t one do to attain such bliss?

I just zone out when I think of it…

Another perspective:

This is an another perspective that came to me this morning…. And I think it is better than what I have written above.

This quote is what I imagine is revealed to Rumi by God Himself, Saying “Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing, there is a field. I’ll meet you there.
When the soul lies down in that grass, the world is too full to talk about.
Ideas, language, even the phrase “each other” doesn’t make any sense.”

It says, you are still bound by dualities of right and wrong, when you transcend them, “I’ll meet you there.”

Your soul will take rest only when you meet me, and the world will become too full to talk about, chaotic blur…

And there will be a union between you and me, out of love, and hence the phrase “each other” will not make sense anymore!

There is a reference of it in Gita :

brahma-bhutah prasannatma
na socati na kanksati
samah sarvesu bhutesu
mad-bhaktim labhate param Gita18.54

One who is thus transcendentally situated at once realizes the Supreme Brahman. He never laments nor desires to have anything; he is equally disposed to every living entity. In that state he attains pure devotional service unto Me.

I like this version better as I think this must be the real meaning of it…More what Rumi must have experienced! There is such a commonality between spirituality everywhere… There is just one God…and we have to connect with Him…
